O.D. Von Engeln nature preserve in Malloryville, N.Y. has a unique combination of natural land forms that result in a variety of different habitats both wet and dry. I captured this image on one of those heartbreakingly brilliant early spring mornings. This is one of the paintings that will be in a show at the State of the Art Gallery during October that I am sharing with my fellow artist, Saundra Goodman, called Textures in Stitch and Stroke. Saundra’s medium is crochet, hence the stitch in the title. I hope this little preview inspires you to come down to the gallery to see the rest. The show will run October 1 – November 1, 2020.

Very Nice capture of the natural area. I was just out there and enjoyed the walk through the preserve. Looking forward to going back in the spring to see the orchids.

If you hadn’t said this is a painting, I might have thought it was pastel on black paper! The rendering feels so soft and somewhat impressionistic, particularly in the distance. And you’ve captured the colors of spring. especially that green that comes around just once a year as everything is budding, sprouting, and reviving after a long winter.

Such beautiful soft muted colors, which marry wonderfully with the delicate surface texture of the painting. To me it evokes one of those days when sunlight is filtered through a partly-cloudy sky and the humidity of a clouded day softens everything you view.
