I’m saddened by the peonies, so red,
As evening came only one remained.
Once morning winds have blown, it won’t survive,
At night I gaze by lamplight, to cherish the fading red.
A little gasp when the image appeared. What a color! The curves, the shapes, the leaves to support the one red flower and more buds for tomorrow. Beautiful.
At first glance I was taken aback. As I looked further, I found so much power in the rich contrast of red, green and dark colors with the delicate forms of petal, bud, stem and leaves. This truly one of my favorite David Watkins photographs.
