Deep within the earth’s crust and upper mantle, fissures open up. Minerals dissolved in superheated water and gasses are deposited in the cavities. If this process is slow enough, the different minerals will solidify into distinct bands.

Beautiful! As an alternate interpretation, I see it as rather erotic!
I love the colors, which seem pretty biomorphic to me, as well as the shape, it does suggest something soft and erotic, rather than something something hard like stone. But maybe we are all just minerals deposited in cavities.
