These musings are works that I created on my ipad to familiarize myself with the Apple Pencil. I recently acquired this tool and I find the potential very exciting. I used to try to draw on my ipad with my finger and was frustrated by the crudeness of my sketches. My previous works were created on a computer using a mouse, which also felt awkward. I am amazed by the precision of line that I can achieve with the Pencil, as well as the ability to stroke with flair. The App that I use is Procreate. It is easy to use, but has many of the powerful features of Photoshop, such as layers and masking, and the ability to select any color. And dozens of brushes and textures.
These three images, as well as the two previous images from my “Geology” series were created entirely on my ipad (while sitting on the porch watching the birds and squirrels in my garden).

The colors in Solar Rift are stunning! I wish the rifts we experience in our world today could come together with such gentle harmony. The cool colors above flow through the center “sun” and spread into the lower 2/3 of the design. This feels like a vision of many views coexisting, accommodating, and respecting. Just a beautiful thought and a beautiful image!

Well it certainly is a different medium isn’t it? I tried drawing with my computer’s pen and I just can’t get over the slipperiness of it. Where I expect to have some drag, like where the tooth of the paper slows down the pencil, I find it just escapes like on ice and I wonder how long it would take to learn to control the line. Dis you find it difficult too? Or did it feel natural?

I haven’t had that problem, perhaps because my sketches are slow and meticulous. And trying to draw with a mouse was always frustrating, so maybe I don’t notice because the pencil is so much better.
There is a screen protector for the ipad that gives a paper “feel”, but so far, I haven’t felt the need.

I’ve looked at your post several times. At each visit I change my mind about which picture is my favorite.i think today my favorite is Ammonite Boundary. Tomorrow this may change:-) I hope you keep working with your iPad!
